How it works

No lessons and no flashcards. Just the reading you already do.

1

Read like you always do

News, blogs, recipes, docs. LexSwap swaps a few words on each page into the language you're learning.

2

Guess, then hover to check

Work out each word from the sentence around it. Hover for the meaning, pronunciation and an example. Peeking is fine: that word just comes back more often.

3

Learned words stay translated

Once you know a word, it stays in your new language on every site. The more you learn, the more of your web switches language.

Why it works

No extra study time

It happens on the news, blogs and recipes you read anyway. Reading becomes practice.

Progress you can see

A meter shows how much of your web is already in your new language. Watch it climb as you learn.

No flashcards

Read a word without peeking and it gets stronger. Peek and it comes back sooner. The review happens while you read.

Grammar that fits the sentence

With the AI engine, LexSwap reads the whole sentence and picks the right form, not just a dictionary word.

Word by word

She hablar three languages.

LexSwap AI

She habla three languages.

Word by word, you get the dictionary form “hablar” (to speak). The AI engine sees “she” and uses “habla” (she speaks). The basic engine is free. The AI engine is free during the beta, with a daily allowance.

Everything happens where you read

A dictionary card on every word

Hover any highlighted word, or double-click any word on the page.

Private by design

Your progress stays on your computer

Your words, stats and settings are stored in your browser. We don't have a copy.

Only small pieces of text are sent

To translate, LexSwap sends single words or one sentence to a translation service. Never whole pages, and never the addresses of the sites you visit.

No ads, no tracking, no selling

We don't sell or share your data, and the extension has no ads or analytics.

Questions

How is this different from other word-swap extensions?

Words you learn stay translated on every site, a meter shows how much of your web has switched, the AI engine fits each word into its sentence, and reading itself is the review.

When does LexSwap launch?

It's being reviewed by the Chrome Web Store right now. That usually takes a few days, sometimes a few weeks. Waitlist members get the install link the day it's live.

Is it free?

Yes. The basic engine is free. The AI engine, which gets grammar right in context, is free during the beta with a daily allowance. If a paid plan comes later, waitlist members hear about it first.

Which browsers and devices?

Chrome on a computer: Windows, Mac, Linux or Chromebook. There's no phone version yet.

Will it get in the way?

You choose how many new words appear per page (1 to 15), and you can pause LexSwap on any site, like your work email, with one click.

Can I start from zero?

LexSwap works best once you know a few basics, because you guess words from the sentence around them. Set your level to beginner and it starts with short, common words.

What about my privacy?

Your words and progress stay in your browser. To translate, LexSwap sends single words or one sentence, never whole pages and never the addresses of the sites you visit. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email only to tell you about LexSwap.

Be first when your web starts switching.
